Tokyo Vice Review
Plot-
Tokyo Vice is an HBO Max original series directed by J.T. Rogers. It is a crime drama that takes place in Tokyo during the 90s. The show follows a crime reporter (Jake Adelstein). Adelstein's goal is to join a major Japanese newspaper company and become a top reporter. He succeeds in joining the newspaper company however he faces adversity as a foreigner in Japan. On top of that, he must deal with the dangers of investigating the most vicious organized crime group in Japan the Yakuza.

My Thoughts-
After finishing the show, I would say I really enjoy it. The cast was filled with familiar and talented actors. For example, Ansel Ergot, Ken Watanabe, and Sho Kasamastu just to name a few. The cast was prominently filled with Japanese actors which I thought was interesting. This also meant half of the dialogue was in Japanese. I respect the show for having a good portion of the dialogue in Japanese because it feels more realistic. For a show driven by its dialogue, it can be challenging to have American actors speak Japanese half of the time, yet I thought it was really well done. The show does not have a lot of action and like I said before it is really dialogue-oriented, but I still found myself really invested in the story. The show has a lot of suspense and makes you care about the relationship between the characters. Another aspect I enjoyed was the aesthetic of the show. The show was shot on-site in Japan so it was nice to see the cultural differences and look of Japan. I would definitely recommend watching the show. It can be a little slow pace at times and it may not be for everyone, but if you give it a chance you may become really invested in the show.
