Overview:
This three-episode podcast explores the leadership experiences of West Chester University students. It follows Kenneth Ogansakin (Combat Engineer, Pennsylvania Army National Guard), Kevin Lowman (President, American Marketing Association at WCU), and Cory McCabe (President, WCU Men’s Rugby Club). Each episode examines their transitions from followers to leaders and the lessons gained from these roles.
American Marketing Association, President (Kevin Lowman):
Keynotes:
- Learning how to lead a team and delegating tasks to team members.
- "Shooting for the moon, " having a vision as a leader, creating plans, and inspiring others.
- Being able to switch from friend to leader.
Pennsylvania Army National Guard, Team Leader (Kenneth Ogansakin):
Keynotes:
- Understanding leadership in the Army.
- Old vs new generation of soldiers, and how changing leadership styles clash.
- The new style of leadership promotes critical thinking, positive followership, and mentorship.
WCU Men's Rugby Club, President (Cory McCabe):
Keynotes:
- Observing past leaders and understanding that leaders do not have to be a one-man army.
- Navigating communication between different groups within a singular orginization.
- Allowing members of a team to creatively express their ideas and promoting inclusive leadership.
Closing Notes:
This project explored the experiences of a younger generation of leaders. From marketing, rugby, and the military, all of the subjects offered insightful perspectives into the world of leadership. Providing examples of lessons they have learned on their journeys in leadership. While each orginization has different goals, there still exist commonalities. These young leaders promote inclusiveness, positive leadership, and communication.
