Intention Definition and Exploration of Ideas-
My theme this year pertains to the representation of everyday life. That is why I chose to make a documentary about a student-athlete. It is common for many high schoolers to be involved in some type of sport. Sports are a big part of our culture and they play a big role in some people's lives. Even if you do not play a sport you could hopefully relate to the film with your own hobby. People work hard to improve their skills within their hobby and I wanted to show that process through this film.
Planning-
The idea for creating a documentary has been an idea of mine since the start of the course. I really enjoy watching documentaries and I wanted to experience creating one. I also specifically enjoy sports documentaries, so with that all in mind I set out to create one. I first started off the planning phase by choosing a subject. I chose my friend Jaciah and discussed the idea with him. He agreed to be a part of the film so we planned out days I would be able to film. I created a storyboard and a script to serve

Evaluating-
Overall, I am happy with the film I produced. There is a lot of different ways to tackle a documentary, and it can be challenging filming one alone. However, I would like to think the final product turned out well. That being said there are things I did well and other things that I could focus on improving.
Strengths-
- The music choice for certain scenes.
- Lighting in the last interview.
- The layout of the different scenes
- Syncing music with the video.
- The topics that were brought up in the interviews.
- Using different angles during interviews.
Weaknesses-
- The first interview was blurry.
- I could have had another angle during the match scene.
- Should have shot clips to establish new settings.
- Could have gotten footage of the subject talking outside of the interview.
- Better interview questions.
- Cut down the interview scenes.
Integrating-
Filming a documentary was different from any film I have done before. When dealing with other films you can usually stick by what you planned. Filming a documentary can require a lot of changes to be made on the fly. That required me to be very adaptable and when I did get the chance to film I usually had to work fast. Throughout this project, I became more comfortable with the camera and utilized different editing techniques. Getting the chance to improve these skills will help with future films. I enjoyed the experience of creating a documentary and would be open to filming another one again.
