Blog Investigation & Work Log 12/5

Work log- This week I was working with sound for my film. I added sound effects for objects. I also searched for music that I could add to my film.

Transitions-

Transitions are a technique used in film to combine shots with each other. They are many different types of transitions all with their own purpose. Transitions can be used to show the passage of time, separate different parts of a story, or emphasize something important to the story. Below will be some examples of the different types of transitions.

Dynamic Cuts-

Dynamic cuts are quickly cut from one shot to another usually at a fast pace. This type of transition is used during action-oriented or exciting sequences in films. They can easily be spotted by the viewer and are designed to stand out.

Invisible Cuts-

The invisible cut is a transition that is used to disguise a cut and make the shot seem continuous. The cut is created by combining two similar frames together while transitioning. The whip pan cut can also be used to hide the transition of two shots.

Dissolves-

Dissolves are a gradual transition from one shot to another. They occur over the course of 24-48 frames. They are different types of dissolve transitions such as soft cuts (shorter cuts that last 6 frames). Before dissolves could be added to films digitally using editing software, dissolves had to be added using an optical printer. The optical printer allowed for two reels of film to play over each other while also recording the shots.
